PDO THREADS
EXPLAINED

PDO threads are a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses dissolvable threads to tighten skin, reduce wrinkles, and promote collagen production:

What are PDO threads?

PDO stands for polydioxanone, a synthetic material that's woven into a thin thread similar to human hair. PDO threads are made from the same material as dissolvable surgical sutures, which have been used for many years to stitch wounds.

How does it work?

The provider inserts the threads under the skin in the areas to be treated. The threads can be smooth, twisted, or barbed, and the provider may tug on them to lift the skin. The threads encourage collagen production, which helps to keep the skin lifted.

What are the benefits?

PDO threads are a minimally invasive alternative to a facelift. They can be used to lift the face, eyebrows, and tighten sagging areas. The threads dissolve after about six months, but the effects can last up to one year.

Where can PDO threads be used?

PDO threads can be used on the face, neck, knees, and breasts.

Recovery

Patients may experience mild soreness and swelling for a few days and, should avoid high-intensity exercise for two weeks. Bruising may occur as with any injectable procedure.

What They Are?

The threads are made of poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) and contain small cones that grip the skin.

How They Work?

The threads are inserted deep into the skin using a thin needle, and the cones lift and support the skin. The body gradually absorbs the threads and cones, and the skin produces new collagen to improve its appearance.

Benefits

The procedure can reduce the appearance of aging skin in the mid-face or jawline area. It can also be used to treat other areas, such as the under-eye area, lip corners, nasolabial folds, and neck.

Procedure

The procedure is performed in a the office and takes about 30 to 45 minutes. It's done under local anesthesia, and patients can usually return to normal activities immediately after.

Recovery

Patients may experience mild soreness and swelling for a few days, and should avoid high-intensity exercise for two weeks. Bruising may occur as with any injectable procedure.

Results

The results can last one to three years.

Safety

The polymers used in the threads are biocompatible and have been used safely in medical devices for over 50 years.
